The episodes on this website are all designed to support speech and language development in Nursery and Reception children.

Further information and guidance is available at the bottom of the page.

Feelings and Emotions

The BookTrust website has a game to help children recognise faces and emotions.

There are two different levels. Children have to identify the correct emotion and then answer questions about the emotion. Parents can discuss the answers to the questions with their children.

Puzzles and Jigsaws

Playing puzzles with your child can help them to develop their receptive and expressive language (what they understand and what they say).

Playing a simple jigsaw or puzzle can develop many different communication skills, for example attention and listening, turn taking, verbal reasoning, description and positional language.

This website contains a number of different jigsaws ranging from easy to hard. You can use these puzzles as a starting point for a discussion.

Barrier Games

Barrier games help to develop both receptive and expressive language (what we understand and what we say). A barrier game can be played by two or more people. Each person takes in it turn to tell the other person (or people) what to do but because there is a barrier the game relies completely on communication.

The two videos below show how you can play barrier games at home.
